Recently, the upcoming Maruti Fronx compact crossover was caught on camera with an emission testing device mounted on the boot. The model, featuring dual-tone alloys and a rear wiper, is believed to the CNG variant based on the top-end trim. One must note that there is no official word on launch of the Maruti Fronx CNG version. If launched, the crossover will use the 1.2L petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit. In CNG mode, the setup is likely to deliver power around 76bhp and 98Nm of torque. It could be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox only.
Based on the Heartect monocoque platform, the Maruti Fronx shares some of its few body panels, split headlamp setup and a more upright nose with the Grand Vitara. It has sporty bumpers with faux skid plates and 17-inch alloy wheels with a new design. The overall length, width and height of the Fronx stand at 3995mm, 1550mm and 1765mm respectively. That means, it’s as big as the Maruti Baleno hatchback.
Maruti Suzuki’s new compact crossover will be made available in five trims – Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta and Alpha. It can be had with either a new 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol Boosterjet engine or a 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol motor. While the Boosterjet unit makes a top power of 100bhp and 147.6Nm of torque, the naturally aspirated engine delivers power worth 90bhp with 113Nm of torque. There will be three gearboxes on offer – a 5-speed manual (standard), a 5-speed AMT (only with NA petrol engine) and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic (only with turbo-petrol engine).
The range-topping Alpha trim gets some exclusive features such as dual-tone paint schemes, 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, a 360 degree camera, Head-up display, leather wrapped steering wheel and cruise control. The new Maruti SUV also comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, 6-speaker sound system, OTA (over-the-air) updates, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, rear AC vents, Suzuki connected car features, rear view camera, and more.
