Maruti Begins Assembling Jimny In India?

Maruti Suzuki has started assembling the Jimny off-road SUV in the country. According to the records, the company assembled the first unit of the compact SUV at its Gurgaon based plant in the month of September. The assembled units are likely to be exported to global markets. We have reported earlier Suzuki will make India as a global production hub for the Jimny SUV. Suzuki aims to produce 4,000-5,000 units of the off-road SUV for the export purpose.

While its 3-door version will be manufactured in limited numbers and exported to Japan, the 5-door model will be solely produced in India. In coming years, the Indo-Japanese carmaker will assemble the Jimny at its Manesar plant by using locally sourced components. Reports suggest that the Maruti Suzuki Jimny might hit Indian roads sometime in 2022.

The carmaker will introduce the 5-door Jimny as lifestyle SUV. In terms of pricing, it will be more affordable than the new-generation Mahindra Thar that costs from Rs 9.80 lakh (ex-showroom). Just so you remember, Maruti Suzuki Jimny 3-door was previewed at this year’s Auto Expo. Based on the ladder-on-frame chassis, the model is powered by a 1.5L K15B petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. The compact off-road SUV model lineup comes with the standard AWD (all-wheel-drive) system.

Compared to its 3-door version, the 5-door Jimny has longer wheelbase that translates into more cabin space. It has front-facing second row of seats along with features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with latest smartphone connectivity, engine start-stop button, automatic AC unit, keyless entry, automatic headlamps and more.
