Mahindra & Mahindra had launched the new-gen Mahindra Thar lifestyle SUV on October 2, 2020. On the same day, the company started taking bookings for the new model. The SUV has received overwhelming response from buyers. Mahindra has announced that the new Thar has recorded over 9,000 bookings in just 4-5 days. Deliveries for the new model will commence from November 1, 2020.
The homegrown UV maker claims to have received over 36,000 enquiries for the new Thar. In fact, over 3.3 lakh people have visited the Thar website. In the first phase, test drive and demo Thars are available in 18 cities. The company announced that 100 more cities will be added by October 10. The new Mahindra Thar is available in AX and LX series, and offered in 3 roof top versions – hard top, soft top and convertible. The new model is available in the price bracket of Rs 9.80 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh. The entry-level Thar AX petrol with 6-seats configuration and soft top is the entry-level variant. The entry-level variants ride on 16-inch steel wheels, while the higher-end variants get bigger 18-inch alloy wheels shod with 255/65 R18 tyres.
The new Thar 2020 is available with 2 engine options – a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 132bhp and 320Nm, the oil burner produces 152bhp and 320Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. 4WD system comes as standard.
The new-gen Thar comes with a ground clearance of 226mm and has a maximum water wading capacity of 650mm. Its approach, departure and ramp up angles stand at 42 degrees, 37 degrees and 27 degrees respectively. For suspension duties, the SUV gets independent unit at the front and multi-link rear unit.
In terms of features, the new Mahindra Thar gets LED DRLs, a twin-pod instrument console with colour MID, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and navigation, automatic climate control, roof mounted speakers and cruise control. For safety and security, the new Thar gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, central locking, ESP with rollover mitigation, brake locking off, tyre direction and tyre pressure monitor, hill start and descent assist, roll cage, follow-me-home headlamps, speed sensing front door locks, etc.
