Maruti Alto, S-Presso Single Airbag Variants Discontinued

Maruti Suzuki has updated the variant lineup of the Alto hatchback and S-Presso mini SUV by discontinuing their single airbag variants. While the Alto losses the STD, STD (O) and LXi variants, the S-Presso STD and LXi models have been discontinued. Earlier, these aforementioned variants were available with an optional co-passenger airbag at an additional cost of Rs 7,000. The Indo-Japanese automaker recently announced a price hike across its entire model lineup.

Now, the Maruti Alto is available in five variants – Lxi (O), VXi, VXi +, LXi CNG and LXi (O) CNG – priced at Rs 4.08 lakh, Rs 4.28 lakh, Rs 4.41 lakh, Rs 4.89 lakh and Rs 5.02 lakh respectively. Prices of the Maruti S-Presso start from Rs 3.98 lakh (for the STD (O) variant) and go up to Rs 5.63 lakh (for the range-topping VXi (O) CNG variant). All aforementioned prices are ex-showroom.

Maruti S-Presso Sales

Under the hood, the Alto features a 0.8L naturally aspirated petrol motor making power worth 47bhp and 69Nm of torque. The CNG version is slightly less powerful, offering 40bhp with 60Nm. The S-Presso derives power from a 1.0L K10 petrol unit that’s good enough for 67bhp and 90Nm. It comes with both manual and AMT gearbox options. The mini SUV’s CNG model produces power worth 58bhp against 78Nm of torque.

Upcoming Changes For Alto, S-Presso

Maruti Suzuki is ready to give a generation change to the Alto hatchback. The new model will be lighter, taller and higher than the existing one. Major changes will be made to its platform, design and features. The 2022 Maruti Alto is reported to come with a 1.0L K10C petrol engine promising 66bbhp and 89Nm. The existing 796cc gasoline motor will also be on offer. The new Alto is likely to debut towards the end of 2022, followed by its launch in 2023.

If reports are to be believed, the Maruti S-Presso will soon receive the 1.2L Dualjet K12C petrol engine with idle start-stop technology. The new motor will make the mini SUV more fuel efficient and green than the current model. It’s the same powertrain that does duty in the new Baleno hatchback.
