Mahindra XUV300 Beats Nexon; Gets Global NCAP’s ‘Safer Choice’ Award

Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) had announced a new award program – ‘Safer Choice’ for the Indian cars at the Auto Expo 2020. And the Mahindra XUV300 has won the award by achieving the highest levels of safety performance with regards to cars retailed in the country. What’s interesting here is that the Mahindra XUV300 has managed to score higher than Tata’s Nexon compact SUV and Altroz hatchback. The subcompact SUV from the home-grown carmaker meets all parameters including 5-star score for adult protection, 4-star rating for child occupant protection, ESP (standard or optional on at least 20% of its range) and pedestrian safety standards.

In the Global NCAP crash test, the XUV300 scored 16.42 points out of 17 points and 37.44 points out of 49 points on adult occupant protection and child occupant protection respectively. Compared to the Tata Nexon and Altroz, the XUV300 scored higher and becomes the safest tested made-in-India car in Global NCAP.

The list of standard safety features include dual airbags, cornering brake control, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), front seatbelt reminder and pretensioners, all disc brakes and a passenger airbag deactivation switch.

The Mahindra XUV300 comes with a 1.2L petrol and a 1.5L diesel engine option. The gasoline unit makes power worth 110bhp with 200Nm, and the oil burner delivers 115bhp against a class-leading torque of 300Nm. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual (standard) and an AMT gearbox.
