Mahindra To Increase XUV Range To 4 Models With Hybrid Powertrains

Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown UV maker will increase the XUV range to 4 models in the near future. The company is currently selling the XUV300 and the XUV500 SUVs out of which, XUV500 will be discontinued on the arrival of the XUV700. The new Mahindra XUV700 7-seater SUV will be launched in the second half of 2021, most probably in September-October.

Mahindra has officially announced to introduce 4 new SUVs on the monocoque platform, which includes the XUV700 and the second generation XUV300. Adding to it, the company will also introduce two new SUVs – codenamed W620 and the V201. The V201 is rumoured to be the next-gen XUV500 5-seater SUV, while the W620 will be the XUV900 SUV Coupe. These models will be launched by 2026.

The new models based on the monocoque platforms will also come with electrification techniques; however, Mahindra is yet to announced the exact details. It is rumoured that the new SUVs could receive hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain options. The XUV700 will be the first model to get hybrid engine.

The second generation Mahindra XUV500 will be a 5-seater model, and will be smaller than the existing model. The new model will measure around 4.3 meters in length, which will make it a direct rival to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the upcoming VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor. The new model is also expected to be based on the elongated version of the XUV300 platform, which is based on the SsangYong Tivoli’s X100 platform.

Mahindra XUV900 Coupe SUV

The Mahindra XUV900 SUV Coupe will be based on the XUV700 SUV. The new model was first previewed as the XUV Aero concept at the 2016 Auto Expo, which was based on the XUV500 platform. The new model will have more modern styling with high-end features. The Coupe SUV will also source the engine options with the new XUV700, which will be offered with new 2.0L turbocharged petrol and 2.2L turbocharged diesel engines.

Besides new XUV range, Mahindra will also launch 3 new SUVs based on the ladder-on-frame chassis that underpins the new 3-door Thar. The company has confirmed the next-gen Scorpio will arrive in the first half of 2022. The company has also announced the 5-door Thar, which will be launched by 2023. Adding to it, the next-gen Mahindra Bolero is also under development and will be launched between 2023-26.
