The much-awaited new-gen Mahindra Thar 2020 will officially be launched in the country on 2nd of October, which is the birthdate of Mahatma Gandhi. Adding to it, Mahindra will also celebrate their 75th Founder’s Day. The company will also start bookings of the new-gen Thar lifestyle SUV on the same day.
The new Mahindra Thar 2020 will be based the new ladder frame chassis, which will also underpin the new Scorpio. The new model has all-new design, new interior, and more powerful engine options. Few dealers have already started taking unofficial bookings for the SUV.
The new-gen Mahindra Thar 2020 will be made available in 3 variants – AX, AX (O) and LX. The new model will be offered in petrol and diesel engines. The SUV will come in 2 engine options – a 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel. While the petrol engine produces 150bhp and 320Nm of torque, the diesel engine is good for 130bhp and 320Nm of torque. The new-gen Thar will be offered in 6 exterior colour choices – Red Rage, Aquamarine, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black, Mystic Copper and Rocky Beige. The top-spec LX AT petrol and diesel will come in 4 colour options – Rocky Beige, Aquamarine, Galaxy Grey and Mystic Copper.
It is reported that the entry-level AX manual with fixed soft top petrol and diesel models will cost Rs 9.75 lakh and Rs 10.49 lakh respectively. The new model offers 650mm water wading capacity, 226mm ground clearance (unladen) and 37 degree departure and 47 approach angles. The Mahindra Thar 2020 comes fitted with a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In terms of safety and security, the lifestyle SUV gets hill start assist, ESP (electronic stability program), dual front airbags, speed alert system, rear parking sensors, ABS (anti-lock braking system), seat belt alert and more.
