Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio 2021 – When Will It Launch?

Homegrown automaker, Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited new-gen Thar lifestyle SUV, which has been spotted testing multiple times. In fact, trial production of the Thar SUV has already been started. The company is also readying the next-gen XUV500 and the next-gen Scorpio. Both SUVs have been spotted testing multiple times in India.

Internally called Z101, the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be launched in the second quarter of 2021 (April-June). Interestingly, Mahindra will first launch the new Thar in October 2020 and the new XUV500 in the first quarter of 2021. The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will receive significant design changes and new interior along with new set of engines.

The 2021 Mahindra Scorpio will be powered by a new BS6 compliant 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which will also power the new Thar and the XUV500. The Scorpio’s engine is expected to produce around 160bhp of power and over 350Nm of torque. It will receive a newly developed 6-speed manual gearbox along with a 4WD system as optional. The SUV will also receive a new 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine, which is capable of producing 190bhp and 380Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

The next-gen 2021 Mahindra Scorpio will be based on the modified version of the body-on-ladder frame (ZEN3 platform), which will also underpin the new Thar. The spy images confirm that the new Scorpio will grow in size and will offer front-facing third row of seats. Adding to it, the SUV will be equipped with more premium features like a new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, reverse camera, electric sunroof, leather seats and head-up display.
