The i20 scored 3 stars for adult occupant protection and 2 stars rating for child occupant protection.

Made-in-India Hyundai i20 hatchback has been subjected to the latest Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) and managed to achieve 3-star safety rating. Tested under the ‘Safer Cars for Africa’ project, the model scored 3 stars for adult occupant protection and 2 stars rating for child occupant protection.

The front crash test was conducted at speed of 64kmph and the model received a total of 10.15 points out of 17 points. The tested model was equipped with the seatbelt pretensioners for driver and front passenger and seatbelt reminder for the driver along with the dual airbag. The 3-year old dummy readings indicated poor protection for the child due to the lack of ISOFIX anchorages. Therefore, it scored 18.16 points out of 49 points. One must note that the Made-in-India Hyundai i20’s structure is different than the Euro-spec model. The European model of the hatchback has more safety features to offer including side airbags, side curtain airbags and electronic stability control (ESC). In the South Africa, the Hyundai i20 is made available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol models get a 1.2-litre Kappa VTVT motor that’s good for 81.83bhp and 114.7Nm of torque. The diesel variants source power from a 1.4-litre CRDi unit producing power worth 88.73bhp and 219.7Nm of torque.
