For those in search of an affordable option, Maruti Suzuki and Nissan are gearing up to unveil two new models in the coming years. New Maruti Mini MPV
According to recent media reports, the Indo-Japanese automaker is set to venture into the mini MPV segment, drawing inspiration from the Suzuki Spacia model available in Japan. The Spacia, a compact 7-seater measuring under 4 meters, features sliding doors on both sides of the rear seat. However, the forthcoming Maruti mini MPV for the Indian market is expected to be slightly longer and devoid of sliding doors. Although it might be early to comment on its engine specifications, reports suggest that the model will be equipped with the brand’s new Z-Series 1.2L petrol engine, also slated to power the upcoming new-generation Maruti Swift and Dzire. No official information regarding the product or its launch timeline has been disclosed, but speculations indicate a potential arrival in the next couple of years.
Nissan’s Triber-Based MPV
Nissan, too, has an array of new offerings planned for the Indian market. The roadmap includes two SUVs based on the new Renault Duster (available in 5 and 7-seater variants), a 7-seater MPV, and an entry-level electric car. The forthcoming Nissan affordable MPV will share its platform, engine, and components with the Renault Triber, indicating a strategic collaboration. Nevertheless, the design language is expected to differ, drawing inspiration from the Nissan Magnite subcompact SUV. The Triber, currently powered by a 1.0L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine generating 71bhp and 96Nm, may see its turbo petrol variant offered in the upcoming Nissan MPV as well.
