Tata Punch EV Launch Date, Booking Amount, Range, Features

The long-awaited all-electric Punch micro SUV debuted in India last week. Now, the homegrown UV maker has confirmed that the Tata Punch EV will go on sale in our market on January 17, 2024. Interested buyers can book the new Punch EV online or at authorised Tata dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 21,000. Set to rival the Citroen eC3, the new Punch EV is expected to cost somewhere between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 13 lakh.

Based on the new Gen 2 EV architecture (called acti.ev), the new Punch EV is the fourth all-electric Tata model in the Indian market. The new architecture is flexible enough to accommodate different body styles and bigger battery packs. In fact, the upcoming Curvv electric SUV Coupe will also be designed and developed on this all-electric architecture. This platform is completely different from the Gen 1 architecture that underpins the electric versions of the Tata Tiago, Tigor and the Nexon. Tata Motors has not revealed the full technical details of the Punch EV. It is reportedly to be offered in two variants – Medium Range and Long Range – and are expected to have 25kwh and 35kWh battery packs, respectively. The Medium Range variant will come with a 3.3kW AC charger, while the Long Range versions will come with both 3.3kW AC and 7.2kW AC charger with support for DC fast charging.

The new acti.ev modular platform is claimed to offer a range between 300-600km, depending on the battery pack. The Punch EV is expected to offer a range of around 300-400km on a single charge.

The Punch EV has received significant design changes to differentiate itself from the Punch ICE. The front fascia is inspired from the Nexon EV, featuring a new full-width LED light bar, a trapezoidal housing for the split headlamp setup, and a new front bumper that accommodates a faux silver skid plate. The side profile remain the same, except for the new set of alloys. The rear also has limited changes with an addition of the new dual-tone bumper and slightly revised tail-lights.

Tata has not released the clear pictures of the Punch EV; however, it will come with significant changes. It will come with an all-new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. The small SUV will also receive a new 10.25-inch digital driver’s display along with a new twin-spoke steering wheel and jeweled rotary drive selector on the centre console. This micro electric SUV also has an all-new HVAC control panel with toggle switches.

In terms of features, the Punch EV will come with a 360-degree camera, leatherette seats, electric parking brake with auto hold, a wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, an electric sunroof, cruise control and others.
