Lambretta To Make A Comeback In India; Debut In 2020
Currently, the new Lambretta electric scooter is being developed in Milan, Italy.
The iconic Italian scooter brand, Lambretta is all set to make a comeback in the Indian market. The company will mark its entry with an electric scooter that will debut in its prototype form at the 2020 Auto Expo that will be held from 6th to 9th February. The new Lambretta electric scooter will be put up against the Vespa electric scooter in the country.
Currently, the new Lambretta electric scooter is being developed in Milan, Italy. While the specifications and details of the vehicle are still under the wraps, it is likely to retain the signature classic design. Just so you know, Lambretta has partnered with the two and three-wheeler manufacturer – Lohia Auto and the Delhi-based Bird Group.
The Italian two-wheeler maker is also working on a steel-bodied Super Lambretta scooter that will be designed specifically for the Indian market. Touted as an ‘aspiration model’, this new premium scooter will be bigger and more spacious compared to the existing Lambretta models. With classic and rich looks and premium feel, the Super Lambretta scooter will target young buyers.
Lambretta’s global parent company, Innocenti is planning to establish an assembly plant near around Mumbai, Maharashtra. The production of the scooter, however, will take place at the company’s Africa and surrounding countries based plants.
