Mahindra XUV300 Based Electric SUV Officially Confirmed; Launch Timeline Out
Mahindra XUV300 based electric SUV – codenamed S201 development is in its advance stage and will go on sale in 2020
The long-awaited Mahindra XUV300 sub-4 meter SUV has finally been revealed in India. The small SUV will officially go on sale in the first half of February 2020. On the sidelines of the revealing, Mahindra officials have confirmed that a pure electric SUV based on the XUV300 is also in the development. In fact, the development of the electric SUV is in its advance stage and the model will be launched in 2020.
The company’s first electric SUV – e-KUV100 will be launched in 2019, which will be followed by the XUV300 electric. Codenamed S201, the electric SUV is likely to make its global debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. The SUV is expected to be launched in the second quarter of the calendar year 2020.
For people not in the know, SsangYong is also working on the electric version of the Tivoli SUV. The India-spec model could share the mechanics and styling cues from the Korean sibling. Previous media reports claim that the new Mahindra S201 electric SUV will offer a range of 250km on a single changer under the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle). Mahindra Electric & SsangYong jointly developed a range of electric motors for its future electrification plans. Mahindra is also working on a bigger electric SUV, which could be the production-spec XUV Aero Coupe.
Talking about the Mahindra XUV300, the sub-4 meter SUV will challenge the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon. It will be powered by a 121bhp, 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and a new 1.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
