Official prices of the upcoming Kia Sonet subcompact SUV will be announced this month (September, 2020). Pre-bookings have already been commenced at a token sum of Rs 25,000. In fact, the compact SUV garnered over 6,500 bookings within first day of the opening.
Sharing its platform with the Hyundai Venue, the Sonet will come with multiple engine and gearbox options. Its engine setup will include a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel motor.

While the 1.2L gasoline unit will deliver power worth 82bhp, the turbo petrol mill will be good enough for 118bhp. The oil burner will be capable to produce a peak power of 113bhp. The 1.2L NA petrol motor will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the 1.5L diesel unit can be had either with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. The turbo petrol engine will be exclusively offered with a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual gearbox) and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Prices of the 1.2L Kia Sonet petrol are expected to start from Rs 7 lakh for the entry-level HTE variant and go up to Rs 8 lakh for the top-end HTK+ variant. The turbo petrol iMT models are likely to be priced from Rs 8.50 lakh to Rs 11.50 lakh, the turbo petrol DCT variants might cost between Rs 9.5 lakh to Rs 11.50 lakh. While the manual version is estimated to be offered in the price range of Rs 8 lakh – Rs 11.50 lakh, the automatic variant could be priced from Rs 8.50 lakh to Rs 12.50 lakh. If launched in this price range, the new Kia compact SUV will directly rival the Hyundai Venue and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza that cost Rs 6.7 lakh – Rs 11.58 lakh and Rs 7.34 lakh – Rs 11.4 lakh respectively.
