Kia Motors India has announced that it sold 11,417 units of the newly-launched Sonet sub-4 metre SUV in November 2020. With such impressive sales figures, the model reclaims the top spot in the compact SUV segment. The Kia Sonet also helped the company achieve a robust growth of 50% over the same period last year. The South Korean carmaker registered total sales of 21,022 units last month. The Kia Seltos also maintained the sales momentum with 9,205 units sold in November 2020. Launched in late September 2020, the Kia Sonet gathered over 50,000 bookings. The 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.2L NA petrol variants are high in demand (60%), followed by the diesel models (40%). While 54% bookings came for the manual versions, 26% customers opted for DCT and 6-speed automatic variants and 20% iMT variants.
As mentioned above, the Kia Sonet comes with three engine options – two petrol and a oil burner. The 1.2L, naturally aspirated has been offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox (limited to lower trims). It pushes out a peak power of 83bhp and 115Nm of torque. The 1.0L turbocharged petrol unit can be had with either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Sonet diesel model is powered by a 1.5L, four-cylinder, turbocharged unit that has been tuned for generating power worth 100bhp with 240Nm (MT) and 115bhp with 250Nm (AT). In terms of features, it’s one of the well-equipped vehicles in its segment. The compact SUV offers a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, Kia’s UVO connected car technology, leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, an air purifier, cruise control, a wireless phone charger, a Bose audio system, ambient lighting, a sunroof, 6 airbags, front parking sensors, ESC and more.
