Here’s Why Kia Seltos Scored 3 Star Safety Rating – Global NCAP

In its latest round of crash tests, the Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) has awarded a 3-star safety rating for adult occupancy to the Made-in-India Kia Seltos. The compact SUV received 2 star safety rating for child protection. The India-spec model, which was updated in June 2020, comes with the standard dual airbags, pretensioners ABS braking system. The body shell of the compact SUV rated as unstable.

While the driver’s legs and feet showed injury due to an unstable footwell, the head, neck and chest protection are acceptable. The Seltos provides adequate head protection for both front passengers as both airbags bottomed out during the crash test. However, the child occupant protection was poor.

The updated Kia Seltos received 10 new features including smart-key remote engine start, front and rear USB charging ports, emergency stop signal, AI voice command system with ‘Hello Kia’ wake up command, UVO connected car system with smart watch app connectivity, full automatic temperature control, new dual-tone sunroof, control air purifier, metal scuff plates and metal garnish on the AC controls. The compact SUV also gets a new dual-tone Orange/White roof colour schemes that’s reserved for the HTX+ and GTX+ trims.

Under the hood, the updated Seltos features the same BS6-compliant engines (two petrol and one diesel unit). The 1.5L petrol motor pushes out a peak power of 115bhp and 144Nm of torque. The gasoline unit comes with the 6-speed manual gearbox and CVT automatic transmission options. The turbo-petrol motor can be had with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The diesel version uses a 1.5L unit that delivers a claimed power of 115bhp and 250Nm of torque. The oil burner cones with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox option. The Seltos offers three drive modes (Normal, Eco and Sport) and three terrain modes (Wet, Mud and Sand).
