The Indian automobile market has been witnessing an increasing demand for CNG-powered vehicles, thanks to high petrol and diesel prices. Therefore, several automakers are planning to introduce CNG variants of their highly-popular models. Here’re key details of the upcoming CNG cars, which are scheduled to arrive by the end of this year.
Maruti Brezza CNG
The Indo-Japanese carmaker is ready to launch the second-generation Maruti Brezza in coming months. The compact SUV will receive comprehensive changes inside and out along with the stronger hybrid technology. Rumour has it that the company will also bring in the Maruti Brezza CNG by April 2022. The model will come with the 1.5L K15B petrol engine and a factory-fitted CNG kit. While the power and torque outputs of the 2022 Maruti Brezza CNG will be slightly lower than the petrol version, it will be high on mileage.
Maruti Swift & Dzire CNG
Maruti Suzuki’s top-selling Swift hatchback and Dzire compact sedan will soon be offered with the factory-fitted CNG kit. Both models will feature a 1.2L Dualjet K12C petrol engine and a CNG kit. It will return a maximum power of 70bhp and 95Nm of torque. One must note that the regular gasoline unit is good enough for 81bhp and 113Nm. Noth other changes will be made to the upcoming CNG variants.
Toyota Innova Crysta CNG
Toyota Kirloskar Motor is reported to roll out CNG version of the Innova Crysta MPV in coming months. The upcoming Toyota Innova Crysta CNG will be based on the base G trim and is expected to cost around Rs 80,000 – Rs 1 lakh higher than the standard petrol variant. It will come with the 2.7L, 4-cylinder petrol engine coupled to a CNG kit. While the gasoline unit makes 166PS and 245Nm, the power and torque figures of the CNG variants will be marginally lower. It will be offered with manual gearbox only.
Tata Punch CNG
Tata Motors is working on the CNG version of the newly-launched Punch mini SUV. It’s reported to hit roads sometime in 2022. The Tata Punch CNG will be powered by a 1.2L petrol motor and a CNG kit. While the former returns claimed power of 85bhp and 113Nm of torque, the CNG will be slightly less powerful. It’s likely to be made available with manual gearbox only.
Maruti Baleno CNG
Reports suggest that the Indo-Japanese automaker will introduce CNG variants of its Nexa range including the Baleno premium hatchback. The 2022 Maruti Baleno CNG could be launched with its updated model that’s due for the next month (February). The new variant will be equipped with the 89bhp, 1.2L Dualjet petrol engine and a CNG kit.
Hyundai Venue CNG
The South Korean automaker said that its Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG and Aura CNG variants are high in demand. Considering the trend, the company is planning to introduce more CNG models. While there is no official word on the same, it’s likely to bring in the Hyundai Venue CNG in near future. At present, the compact SUV comes with the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engine options.
