With a total sales of 3,35,888 units of passenger vehicles (PVs) in March 2023, the Indian automotive industry registered a growth of over 4 percent against the same month previous year. It achieved 3 lakh sales mark for the third month in succession in CY2023 and for the ninth time in FY2022-23. The PV market witnessed its highest ever sales for the month of March and FY2023. Maruti Suzuki’s Swift and Brezza emerged as the top-selling car and SUV of the month respectively. Here’re sales and key details of India’s 5 top-selling SUVs in March 2023.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
The Brezza regained the top spot with total sales of 16,227 units against 12,439 units in March 2022. It recorded a YoY sales growth of 30 percent.
Tata Nexon
Tata’s Nexon subcompact SUV stood at number second with sales of 14,769 units as opposed to 14,315 units in the corresponding month last year. The compact SUV registered a marginal growth of 3 percent. In coming months, the carmaker will roll out the updated version of the Nexon featuring noticeable design changes, feature upgrades and a new, more powerful petrol engine.
Hyundai Creta
Hyundai India managed to sell 14,026 units of the Creta in March 2023, accounting a YoY growth of 33 percent. Last year in the same month, the midsize SUV recorded total sales of 10,532 units.
Tata Punch
With sales of 10,894 units, the Tata Punch was the fourth top-selling SUV in March 2023. The company sold 10,526 units of the micro SUV in the same month previous year. This year, the company will introduce its electric iteration with the Ziptron electric powertrain.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
Maruti Suzuki’s latest offering in the midsize SUV segment – the Grand Vitara – registered sales of 10,045 units. It became the fifth top-selling SUV, beating the Kia Selots.
