MG Comet EV Unveiling On 19th April – Tata Tiago EV Fighter

MG Comet EV, the small, 3-door electric car from the British automaker, will make its India debut on 19th April 2023. Its prices, however, are expected to be revealed in the next 2-3 months. Measuring around 2.9 meters in length, the Comet will be the smallest EV in the country. It’s essentially the rebadged Wuling Air EV that’s retailed in Indonesia. The overall width, height and wheelbase of the new MG EV stand at 1505mm, 1631mm and 2010mm respectively.

Once launched, the Comet EV will take directly on the Tata Tiago EV that’s available in 7 variants priced from Rs 8.69 lakh to Rs 11.99 lakh (all, ex-showroom). Prices of the new MG EV are expected to start from Rs 10 lakh and go up to Rs 12 lakh. It will be assembled locally with over 60 percent localization level.

Based on SAIC’s Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform, the MG Comet model lineup is expected to come in multiple variants. In global markets, the Wuling Air EV is offered in 2 and 4-seats configurations and two electric motors – a 30kW and 50kW  with a lithium-iron-phosphate (LIP) battery. The EV delivers a top speed of 100kmph and it supports DC fast charger. Its battery takes 45 minutes to get charged 30% to 80% in 45 minutes.

In India, MG is likely to bring in its 4-seater version with battery capacity of around 20kWh, sourced from Tata AutoComp. There will also be a single, electric motor, mounted on the rear axle, delivering power close to 45bhp. It might offer a range of around 250km on a single charge.

In terms of features, the new MG Comet EV is likely to offer a 10.25-inch dual screen, an iPod-like steering wheel, connected car tech and many more goodies.
