India’s 5 Popular Cars Will Soon Get An Update – 4 SUVs, 1 Hatchback

In the previous article, we have given a brief of the upcoming top 10 SUVs that are slated to launch early next year. Besides the all-new products, the Indian automobile industry will witness release of the updated versions of the existing popular models. Here, we have listed India’s top 5 highly-popular cars (including 4 SUVs and 1 hatchback) that will receive a mid-life update in coming months.

1. Mahindra TUV300

Mahindra & Mahindra is ready to roll out the updated TVU300 and TUV300 Plus facelifts in the first quarter of 2021. Most of the cosmetic changes will be made at the front end. The SUV will get newly-designed grille, updated bumper, a more trapezoidal air dam and rectangular fog lamp assembly. In fact, the LED DRLs will be positioned slightly on the upper edge. Inside, the 2021 Mahindra TUV300 might receive an updated infotainment unit, new upholstery and trim finishes. Powering the vehicle will be the BS6-compliant 1.5L turbo diesel motor with manual and AMT gearbox options.

2. Toyota Fortuner

India’s top-selling premium 7-seater SUV – Toyota Fortuner – will receive a mid-life update in January, 2021. Unofficial bookings of the new model have already been commenced at select dealerships. Reports suggest that the India-spec 2021 Toyota Fortuner might come with the 204PS, 2.8L turbo diesel engine along with the existing 2.7L petrol unit. A 6-speed automatic gearbox will be standard. The petrol and diesel engines will be available with a 5-speed and 6-speed manual transmission respectively. The SUV might also get new instrument cluster and a larger infotainment system along with a revised front end.

3. Jeep Compass

The 2021 Jeep Compass facelift was recently unveiled at this year’s Guangzhou International Motor Show in China. In India, it’s likely to launch in the first half of 2021.One of the major change comes in the form of the floating 10.1-inch touchscreen with FCA’s UConnect 5 infotainment system that supports Amazon Alexa, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and OTA (over-the-air) updates. Unlike the global model that comes with a new engine setup, the India-spec version will continue to be offered with the 163bhp, 1.4L turbo petrol and 173bhp, 2.0L turbo diesel motors. There will be three gearboxes on offer – 6-speed MT, 7-speed DCT and 9-speed AT.

4. Maruti Suzuki Swift

The Indo-Japanese carmaker might give a mid-life update to its highly-popular Swift hatchback by the end of this year or early next year. The 2021 Maruti Swift will receive a new 1.2L Dualjet petrol engine that’s good enough for 91PS and 118Nm of torque. The same powertrain does duty in the updated Dzire. Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be on offer. Similar to the Dzire, the Swift petrol facelift is likely to offer mileage over 23kml with manual and 24kmpl with AMT gearbox respectively. The updated model will also continue to come with a 82bhp, 1.2L K-Series engine. Minor changes will be made to its exterior and interior.

5. MG Hector

MG Motor India has already started testing the Hector facelift in the country. The SUV’s updated version will get a new radiator grille with black mesh and satin grey surrounds, vertically split headlamps, new dual-tone alloys and new black garnish with a thick chrome underline connecting the two taillamps. Inside, the SUV is likely to receive an updated iSmart suite. Under the hood, the 2021 MG Hector will continue to feature the 1.5L turbo petrol and 2.0L turbo diesel engines making 141bhp with 250Nm and 168bhp with 350Nm respectively. The mild hybrid powertrain will also be there. The updated Hector will hit roads sometime next year.
