India’s 2 Popular Cars To Get Electric Version – Tata, Mahindra

Electric Vehicle (EV) market has been growing in the country. Several four and two-wheeler manufacturers are ready to foray into the EV space in coming years. In the four-wheeler industry, we will witness new EV launches from carmakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, MG, Tata and Mahindra.

The companies not only bring in the all-new EVs, but expand their product range with the electric derivatives of their existing models as well. The home-grown automakers, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra have already announced their plan to launch the electric version of the Altroz hatchback and XUV300 sub-4 metre SUV respectively. Here’re key details of the upcoming Tata Altroz EV and Mahindra e-XUV300.

Tata Altroz EV

The automaker has revealed that it will launch the Tata Altroz EV “at the right time”. Though, it’s reported to arrive sometime this year. For power, the electric hatchback will use the brand’s updated Ziptron technology that will soon be introduced on the 2022 Tata Nexon EV. Its battery capacity and power output, however, could be different from the electric compact SUV. The Altroz EV is estimated to deliver range around 250km – 300km. Similar to the Nexon EV, it might be equipped with the ZConnect app offering 35 connected car features. A few cosmetic changes will be made to the electric Altroz including newly-designed alloys with blue highlights, updated bumpers and blacked-out tailgate section.

Mahindra XUV300

The upcoming Mahindra e-XUV300 will underpin the brand’s new ‘Born Electric Vision’ platform and designed by Mahindra’s UK-based MADE (Mahindra Advance Design Europe) division. The company will unveil three new electric car concepts in July 2022, and one of them could be the electric version of the XUV300. While its official details are yet to be revealed, the electric SUV is likely to come with the 350V and 380V powertrain options. Interestingly, the e-XUV300 will also be the company’s first model to come with the battery cells developed by LG Chem exclusively for India applications. With Blue highlights and a few design updates, the electric version will look different from the regular model. The Mahindra XUV300 electric SUV is likely launch sometime next year.
