Hyundai Verna Gets A New Petrol Variant; Undercuts City By Rs 1.87 lakh

Hyundai India has further expanded the Verna mid-size sedan model lineup with a new entry-level ‘E’ variant. The new Hyundai Verna E variant has been made available with a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine only. The gasoline unit pushes out a peak power of 113bhp and 144Nm of torque. It has a 6-speed manual gearbox for performing transmission duties.

The 2020 Hyundai Verna E has been priced at Rs 9.02 lakh (ex-showroom), thus making it around Rs 28,000 more affordable than the previous entry-level S petrol model. The latter one costs Rs 9.30 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new Hyundai Verna E variant comes with all comfort and safety features offered on the S variant. Though, it misses out on some important features including USB charger, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and sunglass holder. On the exterior, the model gets chrome finish front grille, halogen headlamps, indicators mounted on the ORVMs and 15-inch steel wheels with covers and 185/65 tyres. The list of features include steering mounted controls, manual AC unit with rear AC vents, 4 speaker Arkamys system, cooled glove box, power adjustable ORVMs, power windows, front and rear centre armrests, adjustable front seat headrests, analogue tachometer and dual-tone beige and black interiors. On the safety front, you will get dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, remote central locking with keyless entry, manual day/night inside rear view mirror and ABS with EBD.

The updated Hyundai Verna is also available with 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engines. While the former is good enough for 118bhp and 172Nm, the latter makes 113bhp with 250Nm. The turbo-petrol motor comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the oil burner is available with both 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.

If reports are to be believed, the South Korean carmaker might introduce the new iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) gearbox on the updated Verna and Creta model lineup.
