Japanese two-wheeler maker, Kawasaki is reportedly planning to launch the entry-level W175 retro-classic motorcycle in the Indian market in 2021. The Kawasaki W175 is currently on sale in select Asian markets including Indonesia and Thailand.
The Kawasaki W175 features old-school round headlamp, a single peashooter exhaust and spoked wheels. The international-spec model has analogue instrument console with circular speedometer, an odometer and a trip meter. The bike weighs 126kg; however, the weight will go up for the India-spec model. Kawasaki will have to make necessary changes to make it compatible with new safety and emission standards of our market.
The Kawasaki W175 is a typical retro-styled motorcycle with simple design and mechanicals. It is powered by a 177cc, two-valve, air-cooled SOHC engine that produces 13bhp of power and 13.2Nm of torque. However, the international-spec model’s powertrain is carburetted. For Indian market, this engine will be tuned to meet the BSVI emission norms and fuel injection technology will be added which could change the power output. There is a balancer shaft placed on the engine to reduce the vibrations.
The Kawasaki W175 is based on a semi-double-cradle frame and features a simple box-section swingarm. For suspension, the motorcycle gets telescopic forks with rubber gaiters at the front and a twin shock setup at the rear. For braking, the motorcycle gets 220mm front disc and 110mm drum at the rear. The India-spec model is also expected to receive a single-channel ABS system.
The report claims that Kawasaki will launch the W175 classic bike in the end of the first quarter of 2021. The new motorcycle is rumoured to be the most localised Kawasaki bike in India. It is likely to feature close to 90% locally-sourced components. The new motorcycle is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 1.4 lakh.
