Hyundai Staria (Maruti Ertiga Rival) – What We Know So Far

Recently, the South Korean carmaker filed a trademark application for the ‘Hyundai Staria’ nameplate in India. It’s reported to be used for a new upcoming compact MPV that will be put up against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. However, there is no official word on the same. The same model will also be launched in other growing markets including Phillippines, Indonesia and Brazil. Here’re 5 important things about the upcoming new Hyundai MPV that we know so far.

1. Creta’s Platform

Reports suggest that the new Hyundai Staria MPV will share its underpinning with the new-generation Hyundai Creta – i.e. K2 architecture. It’s compatible to three-row seating layout. The architecture is derived from its replacements – the PB and GB platforms.

2. Seating Layout

The new Hyundai MPV could be offered with 6 and 7-seats configurations. It’s expected to offer a flexible interior with sliding seats and decent cabin space.

3. Feature-packed

Similar to the new breed Hyundai cars, the upcoming Staria MPV is likely to be packed with several advanced features. Most of them might be carried over from the Creta SUV including a large touchscreen infotainment system with latest smartphone connectivity, wireless charger, Hyundai BlueLink, automatic AC, digital instrument console, cruise control and more.

4. 2 Engines, 2 Gearboxes

It would be quite early to comment on its engine and gearbox options. Speculations are on rife that the new Hyundai Staria might come with 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel engines making power worth 113bhp with 145Nm and 113bhp with 250Nm respectively. It could be offered with both manual and automatic gearboxes. Check Out – Hyundai AX1 Mini SUV Might Look Like This

5. Pricing

The compact size and shared platform will surely help the carmaker achieve aggressive pricing. Though, it could be slight more expensive than its arch rival – Ertiga. The latter one is currently available in the price range of Rs 7.59 lakh – Rs 10.13 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
