Hyundai AX1 Mini Electric SUV Rendered As Production-Ready Model

We informed you earlier that Hyundai is readying an all-new micro SUV, which will also receive an electric derivative. Internally called the Project AX1, the new mini SUV has been caught testing in Korea. Hyundai is aiming to achieve 90% localisation levels with the electric version of the micro SUV. It is rumoured to be priced under Rs 10 lakh, which will make it one of the most affordable electric cars in India.

The electric version of the Hyundai AX1 micro SUV will rival the Tata HBX based electric car, which is expected to be launched in 2022. The Hyundai A-SUV has been caught testing multiple times in South Korea. The spy images reveal the design of the mini SUV is heavily inspired by the Venue compact SUV. In fact, the AX1 looks like a baby Venue.

Hyundai AX1 Spied

The spotted model has the signature triangular mesh grille and two-tier headlamps, which is similar to the one offered in the Venue and the Kona. The vehicle’s size is similar to the Santo, but it has taller stance. The spotted model was equipped with uniquely-styled alloys, large glass area, C-pillar mounted rear door handles, relatively boxy-shape, tight overhangs and steeply sloping rear windshield. There is a secondary lamp placed on the bumper. The rear images shows that the compact car will offer adjustable headrests, rear parking sensors and pole antenna.

Based on the spy images, ElectricVehicleWeb has released a digital render of the electric version of the Hyundai AX1. The render looks close to production model, as it looks similar to the spy images. The render has completely re-designed front fascia, featuring a closed grille and charging port.

Hyundai AX1 Spied Again

To achieve 90% localisation levels, Hyundai will hve to manufacture the battery pack in India; however, the Lithium-ion cells are expected to be imported. The company is reportedly in talks with EV component suppliers like LG Chem to develop a new ecosystem for the EVs. It is reported that the new electric micro SUV could be launched in India by 2023. The company is likely to showcase the prototype at the 2022 Auto Expo.

The upcoming Hyundai AX1 Electric Vehicle is likely to offer a real-world driving range of around 200-250km. Government of India is also aiming to install 10,000 electric vehicle charging stations across India in less than 3 years. Tata Power also promises to install 700 charging stations by March 2021.
