Hyundai Plans 6 New Electric Cars For India – Creta EV

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) is planning to expand its electric product portfolio in coming years. With an investment of Rs 4,000 crore, the South Korean automaker will bring in 6 new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in different body styles including SUV. Speaking to a media publication, Tarun Garg, Chief Operating Officer, Sales, Marketing and Product Strategy at HMIL said that Hyundai’s new 6 EVs will serve multiple segments right from the mass-market to the premium space. The company has a strong focus on “the three-pronged approach – intelligent technology, sustainability and innovation”.

The company recently introduced its second electric offering in India – the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The electric crossover has been priced at Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom). It features a 72.6kWh battery pack and a 217bhp electric motor. The Ioniq 5 promises an ARAI-certified range of 631km on a full charge. It supports superfast 800V charging that can juice up the battery pack from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

Hyundai Creta 2022 Teased

With an aim to target mass-market, Hyundai India will bring in a low-cost electric mini SUV under its ‘Smart EV’ project. The model, which will be especially designed for developing markets, is expected to cost below Rs 10 lakh. The affordable Hyundai EV is likely to deliver a range of around 200km. If reports are to be believed, the Hyundai Creta electric is under development and could make its debut at the Auto Expo 2025.

The Hyundai Creta electric will take directly on the upcoming Maruti Suzuki EV that will be based on the eVX concept. It’s estimated to cost from Rs 15 lakh for the entry-level variant to Rs 30 lakh for the range-topping model. Hyundai’s Chennai-based plant might be the production hub for the Creta EV. The carmaker is reported to achieve sales target of 20,000 – 25,000 units per annum for the electric SUV. At 2023 Auto Expo, the South Korean automaker also showcased the Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan. As of now, there is no official information on its India launch.
