Hyundai Nexo Could Be India’s First Ever Hydrogen Powered Car

Hyundai Motor Company has received an approval for the Nexo Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) in the country. While there is no official word about its launch timeline, it’s reported to hit roads this year.

If launched, it will be India’s first Hydrogen powered vehicle. Just so you know, the Hyundai Nexo FCEV made its public appearance at the 2020 Auto Expo. The carmaker says it’s “the ultimate eco-friendly mobility solution”.

Hyundai Nexo Fuel Cell India

Powertrain of the Hyundai Nexo includes a 95kW fuel cell and a 40kW battery pack. The SUV has an electric motor pushing out a peak power of 161bhp and 395Nm of torque. The Fuel cell SUV has three hydrogen tanks with a combined capacity of 156.6 litres that enables offer a WLTP-certified range of 666km. these hydrogen tanks can be refilled in just 5 minutes. The fuel cell SUV can attain a maximum speed of 179kmph and is capable to achieve 100kmph from standstill in 9.2 seconds. The overall length, width and height of the Nexo stand at 4670mm, 1860mm and 1630mm respectively. The SUV sits on a 2790mm long wheelbase.

Globally, the Hyundai Nexo FCEV comes with a suite of autonomous driving functions including the new-generation blind spot monitor. The highway driving assist (HAD) and lane following assist (LFA) are standard across the model lineup. The Nexo SUV is being offered with interior theme – a monotone Meteor Blue and a dual-tone Stone and Shell Grey. It has vegan leather seats with textile piping and headliners and floor mats made of cane sugar derived eco-fibers. There is two LCD screens making a 12.3-inch display and a bride-type centre console with heightened position. In global markets, the Nexo comes in five colour options – Dusk Blue, Cocoon Silver, Titanium Grey, White Cream and Copper Metallic.
