Honda City Reclaims Top Spot; Outsells Verna and Ciaz

The fifth-generation Honda City was recently launched in India with several segment-first features at a starting price of Rs 10.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The sedan’s new model has helped the Japanese carmaker achieve 285% growth with sales of 5,383 units in July sales over 1,398 units of June, 2020. The new Honda WR-V and BS6 Honda Civic diesel have also contributed to the total sales of the company.

In July 2020, the company managed to sell 1,975 units of the 2020 Honda City against 1,921 units in the same month last year. With such impressive sales figure, the new City reclaimed the top spot by outselling the new Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. While the Verna facelift registered a total sales of 1,906 units, the Ciaz clocked sales of 1,303 units.

2020 Honda City petrol has been priced from Rs 10.90 lakh to Rs 14.45 lakh. The diesel models, on the other hand, are available in the price range of Rs 12.40 lakh – Rs 14.65 lakh. The sedan model lineup includes three CVT variants – V, VX and ZX – priced at Rs 12.20 lakh, Rs 13.56 lakh and Rs 14.45 lakh respectively. All prices are ex-showroom. While the petrol models uses a new 1.5L naturally-aspirated motor making 121bhp and 145Nm, the diesel variants come with the BS6-compliant version of the old 1.5L unit. Featuring twin-cam setup, the new gasoline engine is 2bhp more powerful than the old 1.5L SOHC unit. The new City petrol returns claimed mileage of 17.8kmpl with manual gearbox and 18.4kmpl with the CVT automatic gearbox.

Dimensionally, the 2020 Honda City is significantly bigger than the old model. Some of its key features include a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster with G-meter, lane watch camera, connected car technology with Alexa for remote support, vehicle stability assist with agile handling assist and new LEDs lights.
