We have reported earlier that Ford is working on two new SUVs for the Indian market. One of them will be premium model based on the new-generation Mahindra XUV500 that’s due for the early next year. Reports suggest that the new Ford C-segment SUV (codenamed Ford W605) will hit Indian roads by mid 2021.
– Ahead of its official launch, the final design of the model is almost ready and further development will begin from early next year.
– While the new Ford SUV will share its underpinning with the new XUV500, it will carry a different design language.
– Compared to the new Mahindra XUV500, the overall length and wheelbase of Ford’s new C-segment SUV will be shorter. The American carmaker will tweak its chassis and suspension mechanism for improving its driving dynamics.
– Similar to the 2021 Mahindra XUV500, the Ford W605 will be made available with the new 2.0L mStallion turbocharged petrol and the updated 2.2L diesel engine options.
– The gasoline unit will be tuned for producing power wroth of 190bhp and 380Nm of torque. It’s the most powerful petrol engine from Mahindra till date. – The oil burner will deliver a top power of 180bhp and around 450Nm of torque.
– There will be two gearboxes on offer – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
– While the interior design and layout of the new Ford SUV will be different, it will share around 75% components with the new XUV500.
As mentioned above, Ford Motor Company and Mahindra & Mahindra are also developing a new mid-size SUV (codenamed Ford B745) that will challenge the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It will be based on an all-new platform and measure around 4.3 meters in length.
The same architecture will also be used for Mahindra’s upcoming compact SUV – XUV400. Design and driving dynamics, however, both models will be different. The new Ford compact SUV will be offered with three engine options – a 1.2L turbo petrol, a 1.5L mStallion petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel unit.
