Ford and Mahindra entered into a joint venture to design, develop and distribute new products and technologies. Mahindra will take care of development and distribution of future Ford products in India. On the other hand, Ford will help Mahindra to expand its base in the international markets.
We informed you earlier that Mahindra-Ford JV will develop 3 new SUVs, a new MPV and new electric vehicles for the Indian market. A new media report claims that Ford will introduce C- and B-Segment SUVs with Mahindra in India by 2022-23. Adding to it, the American automaker is also considering its high-end performance cars including the Mustang BSVI, Mustang EV, A Ranger Raptor pickup truck, the Bronco 4×4 SUV and the Focus RS for the Indian market.
Moreover, Ford will continue to refresh its existing portfolio of Figo, Freestyle, Aspire and EcoSport models with new engine and transmission options. Ford will introduce an all-new C-segment SUV to rival the likes of the Tata Harrier, MG Hector and the Jeep Compass. This SUV will be based on the new front-wheel-drive monocoque platform, which will soon debut in the new Mahindra XUV500. While the new Mahindra XUV500 is scheduled to be launched in early 2021, the new Ford C-SUV is reportedly to be introduced in 2022.
Previous reports claim that Ford C-SUV will share 75% of the components with the Mahindra’s sibling; however, design of the two SUVs will be completely different. Ford engineers will also tweak the suspension setup and steering system of the SUV. Ford officials have already confirmed that the new SUV will drive like Ford.
Adding to it, the JV is also developing an all-new mid-sized B segment SUV to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks. The new SUV is expected to be launched in the late 2022 or early 2023. It is likely to be based on the Ford B-platform, which also underpins the EcoSport.
