Ford EcoSport Facelift Testing Begins: Here’s What To Expect

American car manufacturer, Ford is working on the next gen EcoSport compact SUV, which is expected to arrive in late 2022 or early 2023. Before launching the next-gen model, Ford will upgrade the existing EcoSport in the Indian market. In fact, testing of the Ford EcoSport facelift has already been started in India.

Design Changes – The new Ford EcoSport facelift will come with visible changes, as the spotted models have camouflaged front fascia. The SUV will come with new inverted L-shaped DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) on the lower bumper, new circular fog lamps, new grille design and re-styled front bumper. The side profile will remain identical to the existing model, except for the new alloy wheels. The rear design is expected to remain the same.

Interior Changes – The Ford EcoSport facelift is likely to receive some changes inside the cabin as well. Expect new model to receive an upgraded SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Similar to its rivals, the upgraded EcoSport could receive advanced connected car tech. It is also expected to receive new upholstery for seats. The SUV will retain the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display, climate control, electric sunnroof, etc.

Engine Specs – The Ford EcoSport facelift is most likely to retain the existing engine options – 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. While the former is good for 121bhp of power and 149Nm of torque, the oil burner produces 99bhp of power and 215Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard, while a 6-speed torque convertor will be offered as an optional.

Ford Plans For India

After moving out from the Ford-Mahindra proposed JV, Ford is now planning to introduce in-house developed products in India. The company is preparing a new C-SUV, which will be based on the Territory SUV. The SUV will be positioned against the Jeep Compass and the higher variants of the MG Hector and the Tata Harrier. It could feature a locally assembled 143bhp, 1.5L EcoBoost engine.

Ford is also working on new compact SUVs including the next-gen EcoSport. The new SUV is expected to be based on the modified version of the existing Fiesta’s platform, which underpins the Figo twins and the EcoSport. The new models will arrive by 2023.
