Citroen C5 Aircross was recently unveiled for the Indian market. The carmaker has already revealed its engine specifications, features and variant details. Official bookings of the new Citroen SUV will begin in March 2021, followed by its launch.
The SUV model lineup will be spread across two variants – Feel and Shine – which are expected to be priced around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Initially, the model will be imported to India as a CKD unit and then assembled at CK Birla facility in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu.
The carmaker plans to produce it locally under its C-Cubed programme. The first product to be rolled out under this strategy will be Citroen C21 (codename) compact SUV that will challenge Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue in India. The C5 Aircorss will be offered with a standard 3 year/1 lakh km warranty and roadside assistance. The carmaker has setup its La Maison dealerships across 10 locations in the country.
Under the hood, the Citroen C5 Aircross employs a 2.0L diesel motor with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The oil burner is claimed to offer an ARAI-certified mileage of 18.6kmpl. It produces a peak power of 177bhp and 400Nm of torque.
Compared to its Jeep Compass, the new Citroen SUV is more powerful and torqueier. The new Compass diesel (2.0L) delivers power worth 170bhp with 350Nm of torque. However, the Hyundai Tucson diesel (182bhp/400Nm) is more powerful than the C5 Aircross.
In terms of dimensions, the new Citroen SUV measures 4500mm in length, 2099mm in width and 1710mm in height with a wheelbase of 2730mm. It’s relatively longer, wider, taller and more spacious than the Compass and Tucson.
While the Tucson is 4480mm long, 1850mm wide and 1660mm tall, the Compass is 4405mm long, 1818mm wide and 1640mm tall. The Citroen C5 Aircross offers a luggage capacity of 580-lites that can be expanded up to 1,630-litres. The Compass and Tucson have a cargo volume of 438-litres and 488-513-litres.
