Korean automaker, Hyundai is planning to launch 8 new cars in the Indian market by 2020. Out of these new cars, two will be in new segments and five will be full-model change. The company will also launch an electric SUV – Hyundai Kona – in 2019. This year, Hyundai will launch an all-new entry-level hatchback which is likely to be called the Santro. The second all-new model to hit Indian roads will be a sub-4 meter SUV based on the Carlino concept.
Just to jog your memory, Hyundai had showcased the Carlino concept at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. This sub-4 meter SUV will challenge the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. The sub-4 meter SUV segment will also witness entry of Mahindra S201 compact SUV this year.

The Carlino SUV will be brand’s fourth SUV in India. Hyundai has already started that the development process of this SUV has been fast paced, and is set to be launched in the first half of 2019. While the concept was based on i20 platform, the production-ready model is likely to use the Grand i10 platform that will help the automaker to achieve aggressive pricing. It is expected that the Hyundai Carlino will be powered by a new smaller capacity 1.0-litre T-GDi 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This engine also powers the global i20 and is capable of producing 118bhp of power and 171Nm of torque. Diesel model is likely to get a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi unit that also powers the Creta and i20. This engine produces 89bhp and 220Nm of torque.
