Tata Motors is all set to unveil an all-new electric car concept today (29th April, 2022). While the automaker remains tight lipped about the upcoming model, a fresh media report claims that it will be a “Safari-sized vehicle”. The new Tata EV concept will also mark debut on the company’s ‘Born Electric’ platform that supports multiple body styles. Its production version is likely to witness a market release after 2025. Tata Born Electric Platform
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEML)’s three-platform strategy for its future electric vehicles includes ICE engine vehicle platform, electric only Sigma platform and a new skateboard architecture. The ‘Born Electric’ will be a skateboard pure EV platform that’s said to enable designer to use “best weight and space efficiency”. Usually, the skateboard architectures have long wheelbase that can accommodate large battery pack.
Tata Electric SUV Concept
A new electric SUV is reported to be the first product concept to underpin Born Electric architecture. It’s likely to have a lounge-like cabin packed with advanced goodies and connectivity features along with autonomous technologies. The Tata EV concept is likely to sit on a long wheelbase and offer a spacious cabin with a flat floor accommodating large battery pack. The wheels could be pronounced towards the outer edges of the vehicle. At the rear, the concept could feature an illuminated signature badge stretching across the rear of the car. Rumour has it that the new Tata electric car concept could be named ‘Tata Sliq’ as the company recently trademarked the nameplate.
Tata Harrier, Safari Equivalent EVs
The report further states that the company has approved the Harrier electric (codenamed – Eturna) equivalent for production. The model is likely to hit roads in early 2025. The company will also work on the Tata Safari equivalent electric SUV. One must note that the Harrier and Safari EVs will underpin Tata’s new skateboard.
