All-New Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-Seater SUV In The Works?

Japanese automaker, Suzuki will introduce the next-gen Vitara SUV in global markets in early 2021. The new model will retain the Global C-platform, which also underpins the Vitara Brezza. Interestingly, the company is also planning to resurrect the Grand Vitara nameplate; however, details about the new model is yet to be released.

It is expected that the new Grand Vitara could be introduced as a rugged 7-seater SUV, which has off-road capability. The company could increase the length of the 5-seater Vitara to add a third-row of seats. It is expected that the next-gen model could follow the traditional XL-7. The SUV could adopt a larger, ladder-frame chassis and a proper off-road biased four-wheel-drive system.

Carsguide reports that Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota confirms that Suzuki generally does not abandon nameplates, and the Grand Vitara brand is not dead. He further claims that the Grand Vitara could live up to its heritgae, and would be a bigger and more capable vehicle.

In India, Maruti Suzuki is reportedly to launch 5 new utility vehicles in the next 2-3 years. The company will introduce an all-new mid-sized SUV, a new C-segment MPV, next-gen Vitara Brezza, a new compact crossover and the 5-door Jimny SUV. The global Vitara won’t be introduced in our market. Instead, MSIL will launch an all-new mid-sized SUV based on the Toyota’s DNGA platform that also underpins the Raize.

The company will also introduce the next-gen Vitara Brezza in 2022, while an all-new compact crossover to challenge Tata Nexon is expected in the second half of 2022. The company is also reportedly working on a 5-door Jimny Sierra, which will be introduced in 2022-23.
