8 Affordable Small Cars/SUVs Coming Soon

If you are in search of an affordable car or SUV, the upcoming months will offer multiple options across different segments. The sub-4 metre SUV space is set to witness four product launches, including three facelifts and one Maruti re-badged by Toyota. Maruti Suzuki’s Swift and Dzire are poised to enter their next generation in early 2024, while the Tata Altroz will receive a mid-life update by mid-year. Here’s a brief overview of the upcoming affordable small cars and SUVs.

Kia Sonet Facelift

The prices for the new Kia Sonet facelift are scheduled to be announced on January 12, 2024. This mid-life update equips the subcompact SUV with Level 1 ADAS tech, a 360-degree camera, a new 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a revised climate control panel, a sunroof, wireless phone charging, a 4-way powered driver’s seat, and ventilated front seats. The new Sonet facelift will retain the same 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0L turbo petrol, and 1.5L diesel engines. Notably, the diesel-manual combo will offer a claimed mileage of 22.3 kmpl. Visually, the updated Sonet features a refreshing look with a revised front grille, sharper LED headlamps, updated bumpers, sleeker LED fog lamps, and connected LED taillamps.

Mahindra XUV300 Facelift

Mahindra & Mahindra has recently introduced the updated XUV400 EV, and the XUV300 facelift will follow suit. The 2024 Mahindra XUV300 facelift will boast a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a revised digital instrument cluster, and central console. Notably, it will be the first vehicle in its segment to feature a panoramic sunroof, reserved for higher variants. Key highlights include ADAS tech, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and wireless phone charging. The design changes are inspired by the upcoming Mahindra BE electric SUV range, while the engine options remain the same: 1.2L MPI, 1.2L GDI turbo petrol, and 1.5L diesel.

New-Gen Swift/Dzire

The new-generation Maruti Swift is expected to arrive in February, followed by the new Dzire in April or May 2024. Both models will undergo comprehensive changes inside and out, featuring a new Z-Series powertrain. The 2024 Maruti Swift and Dzire will be powered by the new 1.2L petrol hybrid powertrain, offering high performance and mileage. Compared to the current generation, the new Swift hatch will be 15mm longer and 40mm and 30mm less wide and tall, respectively. The India-spec version will miss out on ADAS tech but will include a new multi-functional steering wheel, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and HVAC controls.

Toyota Taisor

Toyota’s re-badged Maruti Suzuki Fronx, planned for early 2024, might be named Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor. Cosmetic changes include a newly-designed grille in line with the Toyota family, revised front and rear bumpers, and new wheels. The interior will witness changes such as a revamped dashboard with new inserts and upholstery. Feature list of the both micro SUVs will be the same. It will include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, OTA updates, a 6-speaker sound system, fast USB charging ports, a colored multi-information display, 6 airbags, and more. Powering the Urban Cruiser Taisor will be the same 1.2L naturally aspirated and 1.0L Boosterjet petrol engines with manual and AMT gearboxes.

Nissan Magnite Facelift

Nissan India has confirmed the updated Magnite for this year, featuring slightly revised design and new features. It’s among the most affordable upcoming new SUVs in the country. Engine options, including the 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol, will be carried forward. The 2024 Nissan Magnite facelift might also come with a CNG fuel option. Features such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, rearview camera with parking guidelines, voice recognition control, keyless entry and go, leather-wrapped steering wheel with grey stitching, 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, wireless charger, high-end JBL speakers, and air purifiers will also be retained from the existing model.

Tata Altroz Facelift/Altroz Racer

Tata Motors has planned several new models for this year, including the Altroz facelift and Altroz Racer Edition. Details of the updated version are still under wraps, but expectations include slightly revised styling and interior. The hatchback might get a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless phone charging, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, and 6 airbags. Powering the 2024 Tata Altroz facelift will be the same 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 110bhp 1.2L turbo petrol engines.

The Tata Altroz Racer Edition is a sportier version with cosmetic enhancements, extra features, and a powerful engine, potentially a 120bhp 1.2L turbo petrol engine or a 125bhp 1.2L direct injection turbo petrol motor, available with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
