5 Top-Selling Subcompact SUVs; Kiger Beats Magnite, EcoSport

February 2021 was a good month for most of the car manufacturers in India. The sub-4 meter SUV segment witnessed a maximum growth of 98.90 per cent with total sales of 54,850 units against 27,577 units of the same month last year.

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza managed to retain the top spot with total sales of 11,585 units, registering sales growth of 68.73 per cent. Hyundai’s Venue took a lead over the newly-launched Kia Sonet with a significant margin of 3,227 units. While the Venue recorded sales of 11,224 units, Kia sold 7,997 units of the Sonet.

Tata’s Nexon stood at number four with total sales of 7,929 units as compared to 3,894 units, accounting growth of 103.62 per cent. What comes as a surprise is the Renault Kiger, which was launched on 15th February, outnumbered the Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Magnite.

The French carmaker dispatched 3,226 units of the Kiger within 15 days of its arrival. The company recently commenced deliveries of the small SUV and handed over 1100 units on the very first day. Attributes such as SUV-ish stance, feature-packed interior and of-course the competitive pricing have been working in its favour.

Kia Sonet

Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport stood at sixth and seventh positions with total sales of 3,174 units and 3,171 units respectively. Nissan managed to sell 2,991 units of the Magnite in the month of February 2021. Recently, the carmaker increased prices of the Nissan Magnite turbo-petrol variants by Rs 30,000.

Now, the powerful variants of the Magnite cost between Rs 7.29 lakh – Rs 9.75 lakh. Its base variant that received a price hike of Rs 50,000, is currently available at Rs 5.49 lakh. While the Toyota Urban Cruiser stood at ninth position with sales of 2,549 units, the Honda WR-V recorded sales of 1,004 units only.
