Planning to buy a new SUV? Well, several new models have been planned for this year. Here’re top 5 options that could be worth waiting for in 2022.
New-Gen Maruti Brezza
The second-generation Maruti Brezza is due for April 2022. The automaker will make significant changes to its design and interior along with offering a new 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. Rumour has it that the 2022 Maruti Brezzza will come some class-leading features such as a 360 degree camera, a factory-fitted electric sunroof, electronic stability program (ESP) and 6 airbags. The subcompact SUV will use the same 1.5L K15B petrol engine, but with the stronger hybrid tech. If it happens, the new Brezza will be more fuel efficient than the current generation.
Jeep Meridian
Jeep India is all set to enter into the 7-seater SUV segment with the all-new Meridian that’s slated to hit showrooms in May 2022. The model will initially be offered with a 2.0L Multijet II diesel engine that does duty in the Compass. Though, it could be retuned for generating extra power. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. Reports suggest that the Jeep Meridian will come with a 187bhp, 1.3L turbo petrol engine at a later stage. The SUV will be made available with 6 and 7-seats configurations, former with the captain seats in the middle row.
New-Gen Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai Tucson is ready to enter into its new generation in coming months. Its official launch date is yet to be announced. The 2022 Hyundai Tucson will feature the brand’s new Sensuous Sportiness design language along with the parametric front grille and LED headlamps. Inside, the SUV will have a dual-screen infotainment system with the latest smartphone and Bluetooth connectivity. In India, the new Tucson is expected to be offered with the same 2.0L turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines that do duty on the current generation.
New-Gen Mahindra Scorpio
The new-generation Mahindra Scorpio is reported to debut in June, followed by its launch near around 2022 Diwali season. Major changes will be made to its underpinning, engines, design and interior. The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will be made available with the 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engine options. While the former will make 130bhp on lower variants and 160bhp on higher variants, the latter will deliver 155bhp. The higher trims will get 4X4 drivetrain system, multiple drive modes and terrain modes. Compared to the current generation, the new one will be bigger and have more features on board.
New Maruti, Toyota Mid-Size SUVs
Maruti and Toyota are ready to introduce their new mid-size SUVs in the second half of 2022. Both models will share platform, engines and a few components. Though, the SUVs will look different. Codenamed Toyota D22 and Maruti YFG, the SUVs are reported to be powered by a 1.5L K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine. The automaker might also offer the stronger hybrid tech with the gasoline motor. To be based on the DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform, the upcoming Maruti and Toyota mid-size SUVs are likely to be lightweight and have rigid body-built.
