Jeep Meridian, the upcoming 7-seater SUV from the American automaker, will to hit showrooms in May 2022. It’s claimed to be the completely ‘Made-in-India’ model that will be positioned against the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and MG Gloster. The Meridian is essentially the 7-seater version of the Compass that’s already on sale in select global markets as Jeep Commander. Initially, the Jeep Meridian will be offered with a single 2.0L Multijet II diesel engine borrowed from the Compass. The oil burner makes a top power of 173bhp and 350Nm of torque. However, the automaker might calibrate the motor to produce extra power. It can be had with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 9-speed automatic transmission. While the manual version will get 4X2 drivetrain system, the automatic model will come with both 4X2 and 4X4 setup. The gearbox units might also have shorter final drive ratio.
The American SUV maker is reported to introduce a 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine at a later stage. The gasoline unit (also called T270) returns a claimed power of 187bhp and 270Nm of torque. The same engine does duty in the South America-spec Jeep Compass and Meridian.
Official details of the upcoming Jeep Meridian SUV are yet to be revealed. Though, the model is likely source most of its features from the Compass including a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, a 10.21-inch digital instrument console and more. The new Jeep SUV will come with 6 and 7-seats configuration options. Its 6-seater version will have captain seats in the middle row.
The overall length, width and height of the Meridian 7-seater SUV will stand at 4769mm, 1859mm and 1682mm respectively. It has a 2794mm long wheelbase. Compared to the Compass, the Jeep Meridian is 364mm longer, 41mm wider and 42mm taller.
