5 New MPVs To Launch In 2023 – Hycross To New Carnival

In the past couple of years, we have witnessed launches of several new MPVs or crossovers in our market. Kia entered the MPV segment with the Carens, while Maruti Suzuki introduced the updated the XL6 and the Ertiga. Toyota has already revealed the new Innova Hycross hybrid for the Indian market. Here’s a list of top 5 upcoming new MPVs to be launched in the Indian market in 2023 –

1. Citroen 3-row UV

Citroen 7-seater SUV

French automaker, Citroen is all set to enter the 3-row utility vehicle segment with an all-new model based on the C3 hatchback in 2023. In fact, the Citroen 7-seater MPV will be launched in the country in the end of 2023. It will target emerging markets like India and Brazil. Codenamed CC24, the new Citroen MPV is rumoured to be called the C3 Aircross. The new model could get the brand’s split headlamp design and could share the front styling with the C5 Aircross.

The new Citroen 3-row UV will be based on the CMP modular platform. It is expected to measure around 4.40 metres in length and is reportedly to ride on a 2.62 metre wheelbase. It is reportedly to be offered with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 108bhp and 190Nm of torque.

2. Toyota Innova Hycross

Japanese automaker, Toyota will announce the prices of the new Innova Hycross MPV in January 2023. The new model will make a public debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. Interested buyers can book the new Hycross online or at authorised dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 50,000. It will come in 5 variants – G, GX, VX, ZX and ZX (O), and the first two variants will only come with petrol engine and rest will be offered with strong hybrid powertrain. It will come with ADAS tech, panoramic sunroof, 360 degree camera, ventilated front seats, powered second-row seats with ottoman function, a 9-speaker JBL audio system, wireless charging and others.

Based on the new TNGA-C platform with FWD layout, the new Hycross will come with 2 engine options – a 2.0L NA petrol and a petrol-hybrid 2.0L with Toyota’s 5th generation strong hybrid tech. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT automatic gearbox. The hybrid MPV is claimed to deliver an ARAI certified fuel economy of 21.1kmpl.

3. Updated Toyota Innova Crysta

Toyota has temporarily stopped taking bookings for the hugely popular Innova Crysta. The company has confirmed that the Innova Crysta will return with some changes in early 2022. It will receive some design changes and Toyota could rejig the variant line-up to create space for the Innova Hycross. The Crysta’s 2.4L turbo diesel engine will be upgraded to meet the upcoming Real-Drive Emission norms. If reports are to be believed, production of the new Crysta will commence in February 2023. The new model will mainly target the fleet owners.

4. Maruti’s 3-row MPV

Maruti Suzuki will also launch a new 7-seater MPV based on the new Innova Hycross in the country by festive season, before Diwali 2023. Set to be the most expensive Maruti in India, the new Hycross based MPV will be sold exclusively through NEXA premium dealership network. Similar to the Grand Vitara, the new Maruti MPV will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi-based plant. The MPV will receive some design changes in-line with latest Maruti’s line-up. It will also be the first Maruti model to feature ADAS tech in our market. All the features will be shared with the Innova Hycross. It will be offered with two engine options – a 172bhp, 2.0L NA petrol and a 186bhp, 2.0L strong hybrid tech.

5. Next-gen Kia Carnival

Kia is all set to launch the next-gen Carnival MPV in the country in 2023. The new model is expected to make India debut at the Auto Expo 2023 in January. It is longer, wider, taller and more spacious compared to the existing Carnival. The next-gen Kia Carnival is 5155mm long, 1995mm wide and 1775mm tall. The new model sits on a wheelbase of 3090mm, which is 30mm longer than the existing Indian version. It is likely to use the same 2.2L diesel engine that produces 200bhp and 440Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
