Kia India is planning to expand its product portfolio with a range of new models including electric and CNG cars. While the Kia EV6 is reported to go on sale in August 2022, the Sonet and Carens CNG models are likely to arrive in coming months. If reports are to be believed, the company will also introduce new mass-market petrol SUV and an electric SUV sometime in 2025. Here’re key details of the top 5 upcoming Kia cars.
Kia EV6
Official bookings for the Kia EV6 electric crossover will begin on 26th May, followed by its launch in August. The automaker will retail only 100 units for its first year via a single dealer across five metro cities. Being a CBU unit, it’s likely to be an expensive affair with an estimated cost of around Rs 55 lakh – Rs 60 lakh. Here, the electric crossover will be offered in a single GT-Line variant packed with a 77.4kWh battery pack and a dual e-AWD system. It will deliver a range of 425km on a full charge.
Kia Carens CNG
Recently, the Kia Carens CNG model was caught on camera during its test rounds in the country. The model is likely to come with a 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine paired to a factory-fitted CNG kit. The Carens CNG could be the first CNG car in India to come with the turbo petrol motor. The power and torque figures of the CNG variant could be slightly different than the petrol engine that’s good enough for 140PS and 242Nm. Transmission duties will be performed by a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Kia Sonet CNG
The South Korean automaker has also been working on the Sonet CNG that’s reported to hit showrooms in coming months. Its recently spied test mule features Kia’s old badge, a CNG sticker on the rear windshield and CNG intake valve. The Kia Sonet CNG could be offered with the 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol motor that makes 118bhp and 172Nm. With CNG kit, its power and torque outputs might be different. The CNG variant of the subcompact SUV is likely to come with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
New Kia Petrol SUV
According to fresh media reports, Kia India is working on a new small petrol SUV that will target the mass market. It will be designed on an all-new flexible platform. In the company’s product lineup, the new Kia small SUV will sit below the Sonet and take on the Tata Punch. While there is no official word on its engine specifications, it’s reported to come with the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol or 1.0L petrol engine borrowed from the Grand i10 Nios hatchback. The model might also be offered with the factory-fitted CNG kit paired to the petrol motor.
New Kia Electric SUV
In order to expand its EV model lineup, Kia India is reportedly working on a new, entry-level electric SUV. Similar to the brand’s new small petrol SUV, the new EV will be based on the new flexible architecture. It would be quite early to comment on its powertrain.
