Maruti Jimny 5 Door Testing

The upcoming 5-door Maruti Jimny off-road SUV is currently under its extreme weather and terrain testing phase. Its test mule was recently caught on camera in Leh alongside the newly-launched Grand Vitara. The lifestyle SUV is likely to make its India debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. Its market launch is expected to happen by mid 2023. The new Jimny will take head-to-head against the 5-door versions of the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha, which are due for the next year. Here, it will be sold via Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa dealerships.

Official specifications of the 5-door Jimny are yet to be revealed. It’s likely to be offered with the 1.5L K15C Dualjet petrol engine that does duty in the Grand Vitara and Brezza. The motor delivers a claimed power of 102bbhp and 137Nm of torque. The lifestyle SUV might come with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Similar to the Grand Vitara, the Jimny will have Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD (all-wheel drive) system with a manually operated transfer case.

In terms of features, the 5-door Jimny is likely to offer a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system instead of a 7-inch unit. The carmaker might introduce new upholstery and a bunch of new features.

Before launch the 5-door Maruti Jimny, the Indo-Japanese automaker will bring in a Baleno-based compact SUV. Codenamed Maruti YTB, the model is reported to come with the BS6-compliant 1.0L Boosterjet petrol engine and both manual and automatic gearbox options. Maruti Suzuki also have options to choose from the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L Dualjet petrol engine options.
