The long wait for the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny is going to end as the carmaker will launch the lifestyle off-road SUV on 7th June 2023. The sensation it created among buyers is clearly evident via its booking numbers that breached 30,000 mark. We have already driven the car and shared opinions with you. Serious off-roading capabilities!
When it comes to off-roading capabilities, the 5-door Maruti Jimny has big shoes to fill and it managed to do that. Featuring the brand’s older K15B, four-cylinder petrol engine, the SUV delivers a peak power of 105bhp and 134Nm of torque, The motor is boosted with an automatic engine start-stop feature. Transmission duties are performed by either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro drivetrain system delivers power to all four wheels. When we tested the 5-door Jimny, it performed well on the bouncy and patchy terrains, rock-covered steep inclines, and waded through water. Features such as ground clearance of 210mm, approach (36 degree)/departure (47 degree) and ramp breakover (24) angles, narrow front and rear track, 5.7m turning radius and an electric power steering further enhance its off-road capabilities. The SUV underpins the ladder frame chassis and comes with features such as electronic braking differential (front and rear), electronic stability program, hill start assist and hill descent control.
Blend of retro and modern world!
The new 5-door Maruti Jimny managed to retain some retro bits (inside and out), while offering comfort of modern features. The SUV’s Alpha trim’s feature kit includes a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, reversing camera, a 360 degree camera, cruise control, keyless entry, electrically foldable ORVMs, LED headlamps with headlamp washers, etc. For safety provision, there is electronic stability program, 6 airbags, hill hold assist, hill descent control, ABS with EBD, brake limited slip differential and Isofix child seat mounts. While it offers multiple goodies, the storage spaces are limited.
What about pricing?
The 5-door Jimny prices are likely to start at Rs 10 lakh for the entry-level variant and the feature-packed top model will cost around Rs 12 lakh.
