The 3-door Thar has been a huge success for the homegrown UV maker in India. However, the lifestyle SUV is not a practical car for most Indian buyers. In order to target wider audience, the homegrown SUV maker is now preparing to launch a long-wheelbase version of the Thar lifestyle SUV. The 5-door Mahindra Thar will have rear doors to access second-row and a bigger boot space. The off-roader will also have different names, as the company has trademarked 7 different names for Thar.

The 5-door Mahindra Thar has been spotted testing several times on the Indian roads. This time, a new set of spy images of the interiors of the lifestyle SUV have been leaked on the Internet. This LWB lifestyle SUV comes with a more premium interior with several new features. It is likely to get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, which is expected to have wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support. The current 3-door Thar comes fitted with a 7-inch touchscreen unit, which is not very user friendly.

The 5-door Mahindra Thar with larger touchscreen is likely to offer improved user interface and graphics. However, the switchgears for HVAC, rotary dial and physical buttons appears identical to the 3-door Thar. Adding to it, the SUV will have individual armrests for front row seats. The SUV will also have rear AC vents along with regular bench seat. The SUV could also get captain seats in the second-row, which is similar to 3-door Thar.

The Mahindra Thar long-wheelbase version will also come with a fixed roof. The SUV is equipped with a dashcam and a single-pan sunroof. In terms of features, the SUV will have sunglass holder, multiple storage spaces, roof-mounted speakers, a coloured MID in the instrument console, multi-functional steering wheel, power adjustable ORVMs, cruise control, etc.

While powering the Scorpio N, the turbo petrol engine is capable of producing 200bhp and a peak torque of 370-380Nm. The turbo-diesel engine offers two states of tunes – 172bhp & 370Nm with MT & 400Nm with AT, and a 130bhp and 300Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
