The Mahindra Thar 5-door lifestyle off-road SUV appears to be in the final stages of testing, with the latest test mules closely resembling the expected production model. Although the official launch date is yet to be announced, it is anticipated to be available by mid-2024. As part of the launch preparations, the indigenous automaker has trademarked seven names, including Thar Armada, Centurion, Savannah, Gladius, Cult, Roxx, and Rex. Previous sightings have confirmed that the Thar 5-door will exhibit slightly different styling compared to its 3-door counterpart. Drawing inspiration from the Thar.e concept showcased in South Africa in August, the lifestyle off-road SUV will feature a subtly updated front grille, new projector headlamps, and revised LED DRLs. On the sides, it will appear longer, incorporating newly designed alloy wheels, side steps, additional doors, and a rear door with a pillar-mounted handle. The rear might showcase newly designed LED taillamps.
Interior details of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door remain undisclosed, but expectations include a new touchscreen infotainment system with an updated user interface. The SUV might also boast a new front armrest, a single-pane sunroof, a redesigned center console, and a rear parking camera. The extended wheelbase will likely contribute to increased cabin space.
Regarding its engines, the Thar 5-door is expected to feature the 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel motors, delivering 200bhp with 370Nm/380Nm and 172bhp with 370Nm/400Nm, and 130bhp with 300Nm, respectively. Buyers will have two gearbox options to choose from – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. The lifestyle off-road SUV from Mahindra will be available with either 4X2 or 4X4 drivetrain options.
