4 Upcoming Sub-4 Meter SUVs – Maruti, Honda, Toyota

This year, we have witnessed the arrival of several new SUVs in our market. In the next 6 months, a wide range of new SUVs starting from sub-4 meter to premium models will be launched in our market. A total of 4 new sub-4 meter SUVs are expected to be launched in our market before the end of next year. Maruti Suzuki, Honda and Toyota will launch their respective SUVs in our market.

Maruti Jimny

Maruti Suzuki will showcase the 5-door version of the Jimny SUV at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. The new model will be based on Sierra 3-door model and will ride on 300mm longer wheelbase. The length of the SUV will be increased by 300mm; however, it will still fit under 4 meters. It is expected to be launched in our market in the second quarter of 2023. The new model will be sold via Maruti’s NEXA premium dealership network. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15C naturally-aspirated petrol engine with a mild-hybrid set-up. This engine produces 101bhp and 137Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. It will come with fitted with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro AWD setup, which is the most capable version of Suzuki’s AllGrip Tech. This setup will come with a low-ration gear that multiplies engine torque and limits speeds.

Maruti Suzuki will unveil the new SUV Coupe, codenamed YTB at the 2023 Auto Expo. Rumoured to be called the Baleno Cross, the new model is expected to be launched in February 2023. To be sold via NEXA dealership network, the Maruti YTB SUV will be positioned alongside the Brezza. Designed and developed on Suzuki’s Heartect platform, the new Maruti YTB SUV will share styling from the Futuro e concept unveiled at Auto Expo 2020. It will share the interior layout and features with the new Baleno hatchback. The new Maruti YTB SUV is likely to be powered by a new 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine with a 48V mild hybrid SHVS system with integrated starter generator. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.

Honda has officially announced to launch a new compact SUV in our market in 2023. The new compact SUV is expected to be unveiled sometime in early next year, most probably at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. If reports are to be believed, the new compact SUV will draw design inspiration from the Honda RS SUV concept that debuted at the 2022 GIIAS. It will be developed on Honda’s Amaze platform, which is versatile enough to accommodate different body styles. The new model is expected to be offered with a 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine that powers the City sedan. It could also get Honda’s e:HEV or strong hybrid tech.

Toyota SUV Coupe

Toyota will also launch a new SUV Coupe based on the upcoming Maruti YTB. Going by the spy images, it is visible that Toyota’s version could share styling cues from the Yaris Cross on sale in select international markets. The SUV Coupe is expected to be launched sometime early next year. It will share the interior and features with the YTB SUV Coupe. The new model will be powered by a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options.
