Honda Cars India is gearing up to revive its business with a range of new SUVs and upgrading its sales network. The carmaker has confirmed that its new SUV will hit roads sometime next year. Speaking to an online media publication, Takuya Tsumura, Honda Cars India President and CEO has revealed that the company witnessed a tough time in the past three years due to its global shift towards electric mobility and restructuring its facilities and operations.
Now, the Japanese automaker is ready to revive its market with introduction of new models in the high selling SUV segment. Tsumura has further confirmed that Honda’s new SUV model will arrive next year and help increase its volumes. At present, the company’s major focus is on enhancing its production capacity utilization at its Rajasthan-based facility. The upcoming new Honda SUV has completed its development phase and will soon enter into the mass production. Prior to that, the company will make some final adjustments.
While the automaker hasn’t yet revealed names and details of the upcoming new Honda SUV, it’s likely to be a mid-size or a sub-4 metre SUV. If reports are to be believed, the new Honda subcompact SUV will derive some of its design inspiration from the Honda RS SUV concept that broke cover at the 2022 GIIAS. It will underpin the Amaze’s platform and could be offered with the 1.5L i-VTEC petrol (121PS/145Nm) engine. Transmission choices might include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic unit.
In the mid-size SUV space, Honda will target the cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The model might share its powertrain with the City Hybrid that comes with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycel with two electric motors. The new Honda SUV will measure around 4.3 metres in length.
