2022 Suzuki Vitara To Unveil By October 2021; Kia Seltos Rival

Japanese automaker, Suzuki is reportedly giving finishing touches to the next generation Vitara SUV. The new model will come with comprehensive changes and wide-ranging updates to compete well in the fast growing compact SUV segment. The report claims that the new Vitara will be unveiled around October, and global sales are expected to commence by the year end or early 2022.

The 2022 Suzuki Vitara will adopt a far-bolder appearance than the outgoing model. In the international markets, the new Vitara will take on the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, Toyota C-HR, etc. The new Vitara will be one of three new models slated to be introduced in Europe in 2021. The other two models could include the new Jimny and the LWB version of the Jimny SUV, which has been spotted testing in Europe.

The 2022 Suzuki Vitara will grow in size, and will be taller, wider and longer than the outgoing model. It will come with a more rakish silhouette, more prominent lines and a larger and aggressive grille. The cabin is also expected to receive massive changes to compete well against the rivals. It is likely to gain a bigger touchscreen display for the all-new multimedia system. The SUV is also expected to get new digital instrument console, wireless charging system and improved material quality.

The new Vitara will be based on the modified version of the existing monocoque platform, which should allow Suzuki engineers to create more cabin space and cargo. However, media reports suggest that the SUV will retain the existing 2,500mm wheelbase. It is expected that the platform could be the Suzuki’s new HEARTECT platform that underpins the S-Cross crossover in select markets. However, the platform will be re-engineered to accommodate essential electrification requirements and modern connectivity features.

The 2022 Suzuki Vitara is expected to be powered by the 1.4-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is also offered on the current model. This engine is also expected to come with an optional AllGrip all-wheel-drive system and a front-wheel-drive layout as standard. This engine will be benefitted with a mild hybrid tech, which includes a 10kW electric motor, 48-volt batteries and regenerative braking system for improved fuel efficiency.

The entry-level variants could also feature the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Media speculations are suggest that Suzuki could source Toyota’s full hybrid system for the new Vitara; however, official announcement is yet to be made.

In India, the next generation Suzuki Vitara is not likely to be launched. Instead, MSIL and Toyota jointly developing a mid-sized SUV to rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the upcoming mid-sized SUVs including the VW Taigun, Skoda kushaq and the MG Astor. The new SUV is reportedly to be based on the Toyota’s DNGA platform that also underpins the Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky.
