Japanese two-wheeler automaker, Yamaha is selling a wide range of motorcycles and scooters with the brand’s powerful and reliable 155cc VVA engine. In India, this engine powers the R15 V3.0 and the MT-15. This powertrain is also offered on multiple two-wheelers globally including the XSR155, Aerox 155, NMax 155 and NVX 155. Yamaha has also introduced the new Snipper 155 and Sniper 155R in the Philippines.
The new Yamaha Sniper 155 and 155R are powered by a liquid-cooled 155cc SOHC 4-valve fuel injected engine with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation). The VVA allows smooth riding in both low rpm range and at high speeds. There are two cams that drive the intake valves: one for the low and mid-rpm and one for high rpm. These are switched between depending on riding conditions.
This engine is capable of producing 17.9PS of power at 9,500rpm and 14.4Nm of torque at 8,000rpm. It comes with a 6-speed gearbox with assist and sliper clutch. The moped has a large 5.4-litres fuel tank.
The new Sniper 155 features telescopic front forks and swingarm at the rear. It rides 17-inch wheels with 90/80 and 120/70 section front and rear tyres respectively. For braking, it gets disc brakes at both ends. It measures 1,975mm in length, 665mm in width and 1,085mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 1,290mm. The moped has a seat height of 795mm, and has a minimum ground clearance of 150mm.
The Yamaha Sniper 155 is designed to offer sporty feel and compact dimensions. The company claims that the design is inspired by the flagship YZF-R1, as it gets sharp and sporty styling elements. It gets two-piece LED headlamp setup with low-beam mounted on the handlebar and twin-LED high beam are placed on the front apron.
The new moped gets R1 inspired LED tail-lamp, negative LCD instrument panel, sporty style seat, smart key system and 12V DC power socket.
The Smart Key system is exclusive with the Sniper 155R. When the rider carries the Smart Key, the machine detects the rider and allows the engine to be started with a simple turn of the knob. It also has an answer-back function to help find its current position.
