2021 Toyota Hilux Teased

The 2021 Toyota Hilux facelift is teased in a video featuring Fernando Alonso, the two-time Formula 1 champion.

We informed you earlier that Toyota is likely to unveil the new Fortuner facelift and the Hilux facelift on June 4, 2020. The company has officially teased the new 2021 Toyota Hilux lifestyle pick-up in a video featuring Fernando Alonso, the member of the Toyota Gazoo Racing team.

In this video, the Alonso, the two-time Formula 1 champion, was seen driving the facelifted Hilux pick-up trim. What’s more interesting is that the new teaser confirmed that the 2021 Toyota Hilux pick-up truck will receive a newly developed 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine.

For people not in the know, the 2.8L turbodiesel engine currently powers the Fortuner SUV in India. In its current form, the 4-cylinder diesel engine paired to an automatic gearbox produces 174bhp and 450Nm of torque. With the manual gearbox, this engine produces 420Nm of torque. It is expected that Toyota will further upgrade this engine to offer higher power output for the Hilux. While powering the Hilux, the new 2.0L turbodiesel engine could produce around 200bhp of power and 470Nm of torque.

Apart from the upgraded engine, the 2021 Toyota Hilux will also receive the revised suspension mechanism. The pick-up will also receive updated exterior design. It will get a Tacoma-inspired front look with modern LED headlamps and tail-lamps, new alloys and new colour options. Going by the rumours, Toyota is also developing the GR Hilux performance version. This model will receive a newly developed V6 diesel engine.

At the front, the Hilux facelift gets more prominent trapezoidal grille with revised outer edges, newly designed headlamps, and new bumper with prominent skid plate and L-shaped faux vents. The side profile remains the same, except for the new alloy wheels. At the back, the pick-up gets revised tail-lamps with ‘E’-shaped LED elements.
